Our Rehabilitation Center Volunteer Program offers a unique opportunity to support individuals who are rebuilding their lives after struggling with alcohol and substance addiction. Through compassion, encouragement, and meaningful interaction, volunteers become part of a community that believes recovery is possible and that every person deserves a second chance.

The rehabilitation center provides a safe and structured environment where residents receive accommodation, nutritious meals, counseling support, and daily activities designed to help them regain confidence and independence. Currently, approximately 34 residents live in the center and participate in a regular routine that promotes discipline, responsibility, and personal growth.

A typical day at the center begins early in the morning with waking up, light exercise, and tea. Residents then take part in various activities such as cleaning, cooking, gardening, painting, and other shared responsibilities. Over time, with professional guidance and community support, many residents recover successfully and return home to begin a new chapter in their lives.

What Can Volunteers Do?

Volunteers do not provide medical treatment or professional counseling. Instead, they offer friendship, motivation, and practical support through engaging activities such as:

  • Conversational English classes
  • Arts, crafts, painting, and creative workshops
  • Music, singing, and cultural exchange activities
  • Yoga, stretching, and relaxation sessions
  • Computer and digital literacy lessons
  • Resume writing and job interview preparation
  • Gardening and environmental activities
  • Board games, recreational activities, and sports
  • Life skills workshops focusing on communication, confidence, and goal setting
  • Simply spending time listening and encouraging residents on their recovery journey

Your presence, patience, and willingness to connect can have a powerful impact. Sometimes, the greatest gift you can offer is treating someone with dignity, kindness, and respect.

Who Can Volunteer?

This program is suitable for individuals from all backgrounds, including:

  • Students on gap years

No previous experience in addiction recovery is required. Volunteers receive orientation and guidance before beginning their placement.

Why Join This Program?

Volunteering at a rehabilitation center is not about “saving” people. It is about walking alongside individuals during a challenging period of their lives and recognizing their strength, resilience, and humanity.

You will gain a deeper understanding of addiction and recovery while developing empathy, communication skills, and cross-cultural awareness. At the same time, residents benefit from positive social interaction, new experiences, and encouragement from people who genuinely care.

Program Duration

Volunteers can join the program for:

1 week
2 weeks

Accommodation Options

To make your volunteering experience more meaningful and comfortable, we offer two accommodation options. Volunteers can choose the setting that best matches their interests and comfort level.

Stay at the Rehabilitation Center

For those seeking a deeper cultural immersion and a closer understanding of the recovery journey, volunteers may choose to stay within the rehabilitation center itself. Accommodation is simple but comfortable, allowing volunteers to become part of the daily community life.

Volunteers staying at the center will share meals with the residents and staff, offering valuable opportunities for informal conversations, cultural exchange, and relationship building. This option provides a unique insight into the residents’ daily routines, challenges, and achievements while fostering mutual understanding and respect.

Many volunteers find that living alongside the residents creates a stronger sense of connection and allows them to contribute more meaningfully to the supportive environment of the center.

Stay with a Host Family

Volunteers who prefer greater privacy and a traditional Nepali family experience may choose to stay with one of our carefully selected host families.

Living with a host family offers a wonderful opportunity to experience authentic Nepali culture, customs, and hospitality. Volunteers enjoy home-cooked meals prepared by the family and can learn about local traditions, language, and everyday life in Nepal.

Host family accommodation typically includes a private bedroom and breakfast and dinner with the family. This option is ideal for volunteers who would like a balance between their placement experience and family life outside the rehabilitation center.

Which Option Is Right for You?

Both accommodation options provide meaningful experiences:

Rehabilitation Center Stay: Ideal for volunteers seeking full immersion, shared experiences with residents, and a deeper understanding of recovery and community living.

Host Family Stay: Perfect for volunteers who wish to experience Nepali family life while maintaining a degree of personal space and comfort.

Regardless of which option you choose, your volunteer journey will provide an opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a community built on hope, healing, and second chances.
